The plane FAQ's
How do I know if air travel is appropriate for my pet?
Can my pet travel in the cabin of the airplane, rather than in the cargo hold? What does the law require me to do if my pet is going to travel in the plane's cargo hold? How do I know if air travel is appropriate for my pet?
The Age of your animal can and does matter. Before your pets can travel in the cargo hold of a plane, the Federal law requires that animals must be at least eight weeks old and fully weaned (they must be weaned by at least 5 days before the trip ) . Due to the fact that you are adding stress to your elderly animals life, it is not recommended that an elderly animal is taken aboard an aircraft. Yes, Breed is also a factor. Pug-nosed animals should be flown inside the cabin of the airplane at all times if you travel by airplane!! You can find many carriers to accomodate your animal at ModaPets.com. The largest sized carrier or bag most airlines will except on board is medium(check with specific airline prior to taking any carrier on board), and will accomodate an animal that is 16 lbs or 16"L x 10"H in dimention (sizing help). Never allow a pug-nosed animal to travel in the cargo hold of a plane. The structure of thier faces may inhibit their ability to breathe normally during the flight . Please check with your Veterinarian when bringing any animal aboard an airplane. They may have other reasons that your animal would not endure air travel, may it be in cargo or in the cabin. Below is a list of pug-nosed dog breeds:
